Buddha and Amrapali
The story of how Buddha humbly accepted an invitation from Amrapali, a court dancer, and taught a lesson on humility and sincerity.
Arrival in Vaishali
During his travels, Buddha reached Vaishali, a beautiful city known for its wealth and culture. It was also the home of Amrapali, a renowned and graceful court dancer who had grown tired of material pleasures and longed for spiritual wisdom.
Amrapali’s Invitation
Hearing that Buddha was in Vaishali, Amrapali went to meet Him in the garden. She humbly invited Him to her home for a meal. Buddha, seeing her sincerity, accepted the invitation without hesitation.
The Princes' Surprise
On her way back, Amrapali encountered a group of princes who were shocked to learn that Buddha had accepted her invitation. They themselves were heading to invite Him. When they reached Buddha and offered their invitation, Buddha calmly declined, having already accepted Amrapali's.
Pearls of Wisdom
What did Buddha say to the princes?
Buddha said, "The royal court is also no place for a monk like me. Then why have you come to invite me for a meal?"
🌟 Sincerity and humility are more valuable than status or wealth. 🌟
