Introduction
Before Buddha attained enlightenment, he had met King Bimbisara. The king, after knowing that Prince Siddhartha was seeking enlightenment, promised to seek guidance from him once he achieved his goal. After Siddhartha became Buddha, he became a revered teacher, and many disciples followed him, including Rishi Kashyap.
Transformation
Once, Buddha, Rishi Kashyap, and his disciples were traveling through a jungle when they heard that King Bimbisara was planning a large yagna (fire sacrifice), where animals would be sacrificed. The king invited Buddha and his disciples to attend the ceremony. Buddha declined and told the king that sacrificing animals was not the path to enlightenment.
The Divine Blessing
King Bimbisara, surprised by Buddha's words, asked Rishi Kashyap for his opinion. Upon hearing Rishi Kashyap’s response, the king realized the true message of Buddha. He decided to cancel the sacrifice and humbly asked Buddha to accept him as a disciple.
Pearls of Wisdom
King Bimbisara learned that following rituals and sacrificing innocent animals was not the way to true enlightenment. The king's misunderstanding was cleared when he realized that Buddha had already taught that enlightenment does not lie in rituals or sacrifices, but in compassion and understanding the true nature of existence.
