Prince Siddharth and the Swan
Prince Siddharth and the Swan
A story of compassion, justice, and wisdom involving Prince Siddharth and a wounded swan.

Introduction

One day, Prince Siddharth (before becoming Gautam Buddha) and his cousin Devdutt were playing in the palace gardens. They saw some beautiful swans flying. Devdutt shot an arrow, causing one swan to fall injured at Siddharth's feet.

Transformation

While Devdutt wanted to claim the swan as his, as he had shot it, Siddharth saw the injury and immediately took action. He carefully removed the arrow and bandaged the swan's wound, showing great compassion and love for the creature.

The Divine Blessing

Devdutt and Siddharth could not agree on who should possess the swan, so they took their dispute to the king. The ministers could not resolve it, and just when they were about to give up, an old man entered the court and offered a solution.

Pearls of Wisdom

What did the old man say?
The old man said, "This swan would want to be free and be with other swans. It would want to live. And so the swan should be given to the person who saved it."
🌟 True ownership comes not from harm but from the care and protection we offer to others. 🌟
