Ruhee’s Concern

Ruhee lived in a students' hostel in a big city. She was completing her graduation and was eager to go back to her town. One day, news of horrific crimes committed against women in her area were reported in the newspapers. The police were on the lookout for the man but had no news of him yet.

Ruhee was quite tensed and worried as she had joined a language class which finished quite late in the evening. There was no one who could accompany her to her class and be with her till she reached the hostel safely. She prayed to Allah to keep her safe.

A Frightening Evening

One evening, her class had finished particularly late and she was walking back to her hostel when it began to rain and the street lights went off. She was scared and started running. She came across a small stretch of road which she had to cross before she could reach the main road. There she saw a tall man standing alone. There were only the two of them on that road.

She called out to Allah for help. "Please be with me Allah. Please help me to safety," she prayed desperately. Her inner voice told her to keep walking steadily. She did so and soon passed the man and came to the main road. She thanked Allah as she reached her hostel safely.

Shocking News

The very next day, the papers reported that the previous night, a girl had been badly assaulted on the same road which Ruhee had passed and the police had caught a man they suspected of the crime. The crime had been committed around the same time too.

This shocked Ruhee and she went to the police station and told them that she had passed through the same lane yesterday and could probably identify the man. The police said that she could see him but the man had already confessed to the crime. When she was taken to see him, she saw that it was the same man whom she had passed the small road.

Why Was Ruhee Spared?

“I could have been the victim,” she thought. She was then curious as to why he had not attacked her, when she had passed by the same road at around the same time. She asked him the reason.
