The First Blessing
Once, Krishna and Uddhav went for a walk. After a long journey, they came upon a large house. Krishna asked Uddhav to request water. The head of the house welcomed them and served water and refreshments. Before they left, Krishna blessed the man with riches and a luxurious life.
The Second Blessing
Later, Krishna was thirsty again, and they came across a small hut. The hut appeared barren except for a cow. An ascetic opened the door and apologetically said he had nothing to offer except the milk from his beloved cow. He offered it to them, explaining that his cow was his only possession, and he could always depend on it.
The Shocked Uddhav
After drinking the milk, Krishna raised his hand and blessed the ascetic, saying, "May your cow die soon!" Uddhav was shocked and puzzled. He wondered why Krishna had cursed the ascetic, who had offered the little he had, while blessing the rich man with wealth and luxury.
The Explanation
Krishna explained that He always gives people what they need, not what they want. The ascetic was on the verge of reaching Mukti, the ultimate liberation, and his attachment to his cow was the only thing holding him back. By blessing the ascetic with the death of his cow, Krishna was removing the attachment, enabling him to achieve liberation.
