The Trap
As Jesus grew in fame and love among the people, the Pharisees, out of jealousy, began to plot against Him. They tried to trap Him in public by bringing before Him a woman who had sinned.
The Accusation
The men accused the woman of adultery—a grave sin under the law—and reminded everyone that such a person must be stoned to death. They expected Jesus to forgive her, so they could accuse Him of breaking the law.
Jesus Responds
Instead of answering, Jesus bent down and began writing on the ground. The crowd grew impatient and asked Him again for His verdict. Then Jesus stood up and said something profound.
The Turn of Conscience
He said, “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone.” One by one, the accusers dropped their stones and walked away, realizing their own imperfections. The woman was left standing alone with Jesus, forgiven and free.
