The Statue of Bahubali - A Moral Story
The story of the statue of Bahubali at Shravanabelagola, the milk offering by Chamundarai, and the humble devotion of Gullikayajji.

Introduction

In Shravanabelagola, there is a huge statue of Bahubali built by his brother, King Bharat. Next to the statue stands a statue of a lady named Gullikayajji. There is an interesting legend related to the statue of Bahubali.

The Milk Offering by Chamundarai

Once, a military leader named Chamundarai decided to bathe Bahubali’s statue with milk. For this purpose, Chamundarai arranged for a large quantity of milk. However, when they attempted to pour the milk over the statue, it surprisingly only reached Bahubali’s waist. Despite their efforts to pour more milk, the milk would not reach the statue's feet.

Gullikayajji's Devotion

At this point, a simple woman named Gullikayajji asked for permission to pour a small portion of milk over the statue. Despite the fact that her offering was small, it miraculously drenched the entire statue of Bahubali and even flooded the surrounding basin. The milk, though in minimal quantity, was able to reach every part of the statue.

Pearls of Wisdom

1. How was the small amount of milk poured by the lady able to drench the huge statue?
The small amount of milk was poured by the woman with true devotion. There was no ego or arrogance in her behavior. On the other hand, though Chamundarai had arranged for large quantities of milk to be poured, he had not been able to overcome his ego, which prevented the milk from flowing to the statue's feet.
🌟 Moral: The story teaches us that true devotion, free from ego, has the power to achieve what arrogance and pride cannot. 🌟
