Do What You Can - A Moral Story for Children
Do What You Can
A touching tale from the Ramayana that shows how even the smallest efforts can make a big difference when done with love and devotion.

Bridge to Lanka

Shri Ram, Lakshman, Hanuman and the Vanar Sena (monkey army) were on their mission to rescue Devi Sita from the demon king Ravana. To reach Lanka, they had to cross a vast and mighty sea.

The Lord of the Seas suggested they build a bridge. So the Vanar Sena began collecting huge stones. But when they tried to place the stones in the sea, they sank. Then, Hanuman inscribed the name of Shri Ram on each stone, and to everyone's amazement — the stones floated!

The Little Squirrel

As the army worked, a tiny squirrel started to help by carrying small pebbles to the site. The bigger monkeys mocked it. “Move aside, you’ll trip us!” said one. “Your help doesn’t matter,” said another.

But the squirrel replied, “I may be small, but I want to help. This is my way of serving Shri Ram.”

A Blessing from the Lord

Shri Ram saw this and was deeply touched. He gently stroked the squirrel’s back, leaving three lines on it — which squirrels have even today. He said, “Devotion matters more than strength. This little squirrel’s help is just as important as yours.”

Pearls of Wisdom

1. Why was the squirrel’s work important?
The small pebbles helped fill gaps between the larger stones, making the bridge strong and stable. The squirrel’s contribution, though small, was essential.
2. What can we learn from this story?
Every effort counts. No act is too small when done with love and devotion. Everyone has a role to play, and all service is valuable in the eyes of God.
🌟 Moral of the Story: Every small contribution, when done with devotion, is meaningful. Never underestimate your ability to help. 🌟
