The Conflict
In Israel, many people began worshipping an idol named Baal, encouraged by wicked priests. Prophet Elijah, a true man of God, wanted to bring the people back to the path of righteousness.
The Challenge
Elijah asked King Ahab to gather the people and Baal's priests at Mount Carmel. There, Elijah challenged the priests to prove whose god was real. He proposed a test: both Elijah and the priests would prepare a sacrifice, but without lighting a fire. Instead, they would pray and ask their god to ignite it.
Failure of Baal
The priests prayed to Baal from morning to noon. They cried aloud, leapt on the altar, and even cut themselves to please the idol. But nothing happened. No fire came. Baal did not respond—because Baal was not real.
Elijah’s Turn
Elijah rebuilt God's altar, placed his bull and wood on it, and poured twelve barrels of water over the offering. Everything was drenched. Then Elijah prayed to God and asked Him to reveal His power.
