Buddha and the Ignorant Students
Buddha and the Ignorant Students
Buddha was against the use of ambiguous statements and fictitious philosophies used to cheat common people. He would challenge religious scholars to explain their teachings.
Introduction
Once, three Brahmin students came to Buddha with a difference of opinion about the correct way to worship 'Brahman'. They were each firm that the method taught by their respective gurus was the right one.
Transformation
They tried to prove the superiority of their gurus but could not establish who among their gurus was superior. They decided to ask Buddha for the right answer.
The Divine Blessing
Buddha asked, "Have you ever seen Brahman yourselves?" They all replied negatively. Buddha then asked if their gurus had ever seen Brahman. They said no. Buddha gave them an analogy of a young man claiming to be in love with the most beautiful woman on earth but not knowing who she was or where she lived. He asked if it would be right to claim love without knowing such basic details.
Pearls of Wisdom
Buddha shared that debating the method of worshiping Brahman without having knowledge of it was foolish.
1. What did Buddha say?
Buddha said, "Then friends, would it be wise to extensively debate on the method of worshipping that about which we have absolutely no information?"
2. What was Buddha trying to tell the students?
Buddha was telling the students that they were wasting their time arguing on fictitious philosophies and trying to establish the superiority of their gurus. Instead, they should stop their arguments and accept the path of introspection which would lead to enlightenment.
🌟 Moral: Debating on things without proper knowledge is futile. True wisdom comes from introspection and enlightenment. 🌟
